John Wesley Caldwell served the Union Army in Company B, Eighth Maine. He and five of his brothers; Francis, Leonard, Asbury, Philip and Hiram, were volunteers for three years during the war. The latter three never returned, while Leonard came back with a bullet in his lungs which caused his death later.
